Ps Clinton Phillips 16th June 2013 (Matthew 22:37-40, Matthew 7:21-22, Luke 13:22, John 17:3)

Clinton Phillips, June 16, 2013
Part of the Sunday series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

"tzedakah" - Hebrew word generosity and righteousness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Righteousness)
Promo next week "Terumat hamaaser": the first tithe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terumat_hamaaser. God is interested in you saving. Not just about giving to church.
Matt 22:37-40. Which is the great commandment? Love the Lord your God, love your neighbour. Not so much about asking the question, but showing others around him how much he knows. The Law had 600+ laws. You can either memorise the whole Torah, but everything hinges on loving God, loving people. These are not two commands, but one. How I love God is how I love people. How I love people demonstrates how I love God.
Matt 7:21-27. Do you know God? There is a measure that God uses for people who know him.
Luke 13:22. How does God define it to know Him?

Matthew 22:37-40

37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (KJV)

Matthew 7:21-22

21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? (KJV)

Luke 13:22

22And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. (KJV)

John 17:3

3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (KJV)
