Part of the Sunday series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Recap: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit. A shift in the last month. Doesn't need our power, done in the power of the Holy Spirit. Have eyes of faith that God is going to move. Provide.
Matt 6:33 - seek first the kingdom of God. He leads us to be people who seek first the kingdom of God. Not about giving money. About trust. Building relationship. God says "Trust me - I'm going to work in your situation by my Spirit". Don't rely on self-help: God will make a vast difference in the things God has called us to do.
Exodus 25:8 - Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. It's about a God who wants to have relationship - a place where I can live among them.
Exodus 25:1-8 (MSG) "set aside an offering from those who are willing to give." Receive an offering, build me a house, according to the pattern.
Pictures of houses. The focus here is God saying "build me a house". Why does God need a house
2 Chronicles 2:6 - who is able to build Him a temple? What is God's house like? Revelations description of throne room.
Why talk about tithe, taruma? Who's the temple really for? God's got his own pad! The building of the temple is about God unlocking to us His presence. For those who are willing, you understand the whole principle of what God is asking of us.
Story of widow and Elijah: Poor lady, doesn't have much. Elijah says "give me first". When we read on, we see the miracle in the story. The flour never ran out for three years!
Before the people of Israel leave Egypt, ask the people for gold and silver. Israelites walking out of Egypt with all this gold and silver. The picture is: God provided for them an offering to give to God to build His house.
*God even before he requires of us, He already has a plan for us - He already knows what our needs are going to be!* Sometimes we struggle to trust God with our finances. If we are faithful in little, then we will be faithful in a lot.
This is about a principle in scripture.
God hasn't finished in this place!
Meeting with people outside church, astounded by the love shown by this church. Volunteer of the year award, breakfast program. Breakfast club, coming to youth group! 5.5k people in this community of Langford. Two millionaires lived in Langford. You don't know who you are going to meet here.
God already knows your future. God says I want you to establish my temple. The church is the hope of the community. You are carriers of the spirit of God! We carry that out to the community. We give rather than take. Selfless rather than selfish. Speak wisdom into the situation. Because of the Spirit of God, you are part of the body of Christ. The hope of our community, beyond what business and government can do.
The opportunity to love on the community: LINC. Someone cares, someone loves. We just want you to know that someone cares.
Isaiah 60:21 - You are the shoot that God has planted, the work of His hands. Don't quit the process - God is forming Christ in you! The character of Christ. The workmanship of God in you.
vs 22 - the little one will become a thousand - God will enlarge you, causes you to have capacity, so that you don't implode, you don't get overwhelmed. Things will change! People will drive us mad - don't give up, don't quit the process. God is building capacity in you!
A small one a nation!
Clinton and Leah - one month's wages commitment to the Beyond 2013.
Talk on Discouragement. Three D's - Discouragement, Dissatisfaction, Disinterest.
Haggai 2:1-3. We're really good at starting out, but over time we get discouraged, dissatisfied, or disinterested.
Temple. Discouragement starting to seep into the younger generation. For us, our live back then was so amazing. So easy to become discouraged/disillusioned.
vs 4 "be strong". Speak the word of God. Work! God says I am with you - The Lord of Hosts. He doesn't give you a formula, just say.
What we do has an eternal impact.

2:1 In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, 2 “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and say, 3 ‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes? 4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. Work, for I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts, (ESV)
