Ps Clinton Phillips 22nd September 2013 (1 Corinthians 6:19, Romans 6:17-18, John 14:23, 1 Peter 2:5)

Clinton Phillips, September 22, 2013
Part of the Sunday series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

1 Cor 6:19 Body is the temple of the Holy Spirit ... you are not your own. Body is able to house, host and keep the Spirit of God. Live inside us and through us. Put on our body as a glove. Not ours, but His. The exchange: our life for His. He puts His Spirit in us, to impact and change us and other people.
"...You were bought with a price, therefore honor God with your body..." Understand how precious and valuable you are to God! You are His temple, first and foremost. He put His life and presence in you! Changes our perspective, not to be overrun by habits and hangups, God has put something precious, valuable and powerful inside us.
Definition of temple: building devoted to worship of God. Pictures of temples. Q: does God need a temple?
Rom 6:17,18. Become slaves to righteousness.
John 14:23 "... *we* will make our home with him..." Jesus wants to move in! Is there space for God in our world? Letting people into house because it's not clean - do we hold God at arm's length the same way? God is not interested in just visiting the "lounge room", He wants to move in. Become a person who says there is room for God in my life. In that relationship with God, that He begins to counsel us on our situation. God is a Holy God, and requires that of us! Put His Holy Spirit (not His "friendly spirit") in our lives.
Don't let our feelings of not being good enough to stop God from coming in. Allow Him to come in and permeate every part of our lives. That power that raised Christ from the dead will break through every stronghold.
1 Peter 2:5 - we are living stones that are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood...`
When Solomon built the temple, it's not big enough to house God. Moses on the mountain, experience. "I need you to build me a house". Is the building for us, or for the community?
God is building you, God is shaping you, because you are part of His spiritual temple. Every part of the body needs to be filled with the Spirit. He wants to live among the people, so when you go out in everyday life, God's temple is going there.
