Introduction
Speak to every dead thing ... every hurt, brokenness. Holy Spirit wants to speak into every situation and fill you with hope. Plug up the hole, the wound that you face. God wants to fill hope where there is hopelessness, peace where there is anxiety. Joy of The Lord is your strength. Out of hope comes our peace. Hope lines our lives so God can fill us.
Rom 15:13. May the God of hope fill you with all joy. Fill you completely.
If we have holes in the container, we can't overflow. God will plug up the holes, then God will overflow. As God fills you, then you will overflow. Peace will overflow where there is no peace. We are something significant, more than just what we see. Not a put-on thing, not hype - it's the truth.
Prayer.
Expectation and confidence. When expectation is let down.
Christ is the model of behaviour. How Christ views relationships, and how Christ views us as family. God's word instructs us how to be family together, patience, how to be patient with others. vs 7: glorify God together.
We can be all in one room, but not together. God is able!
God is all about what God has done. Not about praying hard enough, studying hard enough that God will respond. Don't become of a mindset that our faith is based just on what God has done for us! Take everything to the cross, then the power of God is released. If we just give mental assent to this, nothing will change. God thoughts are higher than our thoughts! God's ways are higher than our ways.
vs 15: If we just talk about what pertains to Jesus Christ. The only thing that will turn darkness to light, is light! The things that pertain to Jesus turns darkness to light! We need to be of the mindset that no matter what happens in our lives, God is the God of hope! God will go beyond our situation, our diagnosis, our brokenness. When the God of hope fills you with all hope, peace and joy result in your life!
1 Peter 1:3-7 (msg) What a God we have! ** We have everything to live for! ** God wants to speak life, his heartbeat, into that situation. The very thing that we're holding onto, is the very thing that stops us from receiving God's peace and joy. The answer is not in the person, the answer is in Jesus Christ, in the word of God. That's why God wants us to have the perspective that God is God. Don't know why this happened, but you're God.
Everything to live for ... including eternity in heaven. Look up - when you look up you begin to see much more!
1. Lift your perspective. Hope is focussed in eternity. Jesus was raised from the dead, we've been given a brand new life, everything to live for. Gold put in the in the fire comes out proved pure.
God says "I know your needs, but you need to have perspective". Hope doesn't come through good thinking, it comes through your faith. If you are discouraged in faith, then you'll never have hope again.
Rope story. Our life here 70 years vs eternity in heaven - make long-term perspective. The decision is with us - do we place our trust in God, because he's the only one who can give eternal life - you can't buy it, or earn it. You can't win it through lotto.
2. Strategy of enemy is to lower your focus.
Four legged stool. Training tool for animals. Thrust chair - produces temporary loss of focus, makes them weak - can't focus on 4 things coming at them.
Same with us - if the things of life come at us, it immobilises us. When life is hard, we become distracted, lose focus, we hold back. God is for us!
Hebrews 12:1-3. Great cloud of witnesses. If we're going through something here and now, if our hope is on something bigger than the circumstance, then we can make it through. The hope, the joy that was set before him. God says I will fill you with joy and you'll be able to go through anything! We have this focus beyond ourselves.
Jesus - beaten, humiliated and abused. His response? Father forgive them! Our pattern. Not about the cross, it's about the hope that I have.
Rom 8:31 - If God is for you, who can be against us? That's hope, no matter what you're facing.

Romans 15:13-15

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

14 I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another. 15 But on some points I have written to you very boldly by way of reminder, because of the grace given me by God (ESV)

1 Peter 1:3-7

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (ESV)

Romans 8:31

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (ESV)

Hebrews 12:1-3

12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. (ESV)
