Introduction
Worship. Not just what we sing, but what we do. Small things make a big difference.
John 4:39-42. Woman of Samaria. One woman turned the whole city upside down, brought a whole city to Jesus. Jews and Samaritans did not mix with each other. Jesus stayed with them, and many came to believe in him. Not just some religious thing, someone came and brought freedom to them. People were in their prisons of their hearts and woundedness, but someone came to bring release from their cells. Statistics around men/fatherlessness: 40% teenagers do not have a father living with them at home. 48% marriages end in divorce. 70-80% all male prisoners raised in a household with no father figure, no male figure at all. Breakdown of society is this generation growing up without fathers. Small things make a huge difference.
God is calling out men. Small things make a huge difference. Lets be a church that raises up generations. Raise up the fatherless generation. When you begin to be a man of purpose, you don't have to look too far to see young men to encourage. Practical example.
All it would take is someone to shift their thought processes off themselves, off the "me me me", and onto others. If that's all you're going to focus on, that's all you'll feel. There'll come a time when the older generation will need the younger generation to help us through. All it takes is someone to speak into their lives.
Talk about DNA Isa 49:6 - I'm setting you up as a light for the nations so that my salvation becomes global. Missional plan for church! Example of raising men, that could be the mission. Our mission is not necessarily overseas, it can begin right here in this building. In Acts, communicate the life and love of God in their own language. Out of a relationship encounter.
The minute you step outside your door of your life, outside of "me me me", that's when the power of God is released into your life. Don't become a church of spiritual junkies, but be a people that goes out to change lives of people around. Be a people who get downloaded by God every day, and then take that and pour it into other people's lives.
Part of our DNA is to "Reach Out".
Youtube clip. Small thing makes a big difference.
Story - Sheldon, city high crime rate. Decide to paint over graffiti, crime rate drop. Today walk around Langford, pickup rubbish. Doesn't matter if no-one sees.
Last year's rubbish pickup. Easter egg hunt. Breakfast club. Appreciation Lunch Yale Primary school. Elevate conference coming up 6th-10th August.
What drives us as a church? Go back to story in John 4. Listen to story again: vs 1-4. Get our heads and minds off ourselves, and comparing our ministry to others. Don't have time for that. Don't engage in that - do what you came to do. When God gives us vision, we won't be picking faults, we'll be busy doing the vision.
vs 5-6. Something about purpose - Jesus always initiates relationship. Jesus travels through Samaria. Sychar (means purchase - where Jacob's well was). Meeting this woman in the middle of the day. Too hot to walk. This woman was an outcast from her community, never came with the other women. Jesus is sitting at the well, weary and tired. Jesus says give me a drink. People in this community need to have encounter with Christ, but we need to step outside church service, to go to the outcasts.
The woman comes to Jesus has this conversation. Jesus spoke to her 7 times, woman replied 6 times. She began to deflect away from her, but Jesus kept back on topic. Begin to be a purpose who persists on loving people. Show them kindness, the life of God. When people know you're offering hope, it's the kindness of God that led us to repentance. It's God's love and mercy that led me. Primary focus is the love of God. God so loved the world that He gave His Son. Didn't say "wipe out the world and start again".
2 Cor 5:14,15 - the love of God compels us.
Family is bigger than us. Once a week dinner. Once a month breakfast before church.
City of Gosnells youth bands event here at C3L.
Aboriginal youth ball. 100 family members watching their kids dance here.
This place (C3L) becomes the well where they encounter Jesus, the Jesus in us! Small encounter that makes a massive difference!
