2 Tim 3:16 - All scripture is God-breathed. Recharge your spirit to allow the word of God to teach you and equip you.
1. God's word is certain
2. God's plan and purpose will be fulfilled - in spite of me.
3. The word of God is meant to be believed and trusted.
Luke 1:1-4.
Writing to Theophilus, written so that we can understand. A person of high standing in the community. Writing this letter about Jesus, from eye-witness accounts. Luke as a writer comes from the human perspective of Jesus. Many eye witnesses. We believe the bible is God's word, not just made up metaphors. God's handbook. Contains things spoken about before they happened. Between the old testament and the gospels, about 400 years. God starts speaking again after 400 years of slience.
Luke 1:5-19. Story of the birth of John. Zacharias serving in the temple. Angel says to Zac - your prayers have been heard. Zac says "how will I know?" Angel says "I am Gabriel, and I stand in the presence of God, I was sent to deliver you this news". Is God's word just something we try to be obedient to, or is it something that we truly believe? "God told me to bring this to you".
Lule 1:20-21 You will not be able to speak until the day these things take place. God's plan will be fulfilled despite us. Whether we believe this or not, this is going to happen! There is a purpose and a plan for your life, whether you doubt it or not. Sometimes we need to zip our lip! Out of the abundance of our heart the mouth speaks. We are living with a lot of doubt about what God has said, because our history speaks to us. We don't believe God's word. What has God said to you about your situation? We need to come to a place of repentance - we need to say: despite our situation, we will take you at your word!
