Clinton Phillips, July 9, 2017
Part of the Juice series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

God is growing us passed just feeling good about where we are at. New creation = new species. He is transforming us.
Fruits - character changing. By the Holy Spirit not our will power. Our will power will fail.
Rod and staff comfort me? The shepherds tool was about alignment to the path and correction/discipline. (The comfort comes from knowing that the father loves us because he is disciplining us)
Look at the fruits again - no law anywhere against these. People will start to see these in you.
John the Baptist - turn/repent. Jesus added believe. We can apply this to the fruits. I believe there will be . . . in me.
Look at the contrasts v19 (I can't explain everything ie what each of these are and why they are bad - not enough time in a sermon; please study for yourselves)
Jesus has done everything for us. Start living his way and this stuff will start to fall away. The power of God is bigger than whatever our addictions are or whatever we are facing.
Sobering: those who practice these things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Kingdom of God - knowing Him. We can't get rid of this stuff but He can!!
The gifts are given primarily for others The fruits are given primarily for relationship: God, others, ourselves
The Fruit of the Spirit is singular with different flavors. Be planted in relationship with Him. The one Holy Spirit produces everything I need in me for relationship with Him.
First fruit love from God Romans 5:5 (KJV) The Spirit wants to break - self hate! God loves so much, He gave. John 3:16-17 (KJV)
1 John 4:7 (KJV) [7] Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13 (NKJV) The Greatest Gift. [13] And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
