Introduction - "Change the Switch"
Rennovations. Rewiring the house? No - change the switches!
The power is always there in the house, the lights would always work, but all it takes is a couple of switches to change. We are supposed to walk in the power in the Holy Spirit, we are supposed to be a prophetic people - we live on the cutting edge of heaven and earth. If this world is going to see anything of heaven, it's going to come through us!
The power is available, but the lights aren't working - just change the switch!
There are some dark places in Langford that need to be lit up - change the switch! Maybe we feel like we're going through the motions, we need to change the switch. Look through the life of Jesus, prescriptive. Luke 4:18 - the Spirit of the Lord is apon me ... Jesus is doing all that stuff, and at the end of it, he sends the disciples out to do the same. There's something about the life of Jesus, supposed to be instructional. The way that the Father sent me, I am sending you.
Gospel = Good News, the reign of God has broken into the world through Jesus. The problem: we look at the world, and we don't see it! So many areas of this world aren't broken in, a contradiction, we don't understand. God is using His church to break into this world. When we see the darkness, then it's instructional to tell us that the presence of God, the church, needs to step into that area. The church needs to go into areas of darkness. God has called us into the dark areas. That's where we fight, where we fly.
Luke 8:26-39. Man possessed by a demon...the crowd saw the man fully clothed and sane, and they were afraid. Those who had seen what happened told the others. Begged Jesus to leave. The man went back to his family. Note the placement of this story: intentional. Jesus in the boat, fierce storm - Jesus facing an uncontrollable storm, then facing an uncontrollable man. Controlling the uncontrollable. Scripture trying to teach us. "Who is this man, who the wind and waves obey". Answer from the demon possessed man: Jesus, son of God. First time moving into a gentile land. Galilee was considered an unclean place. The further out you go from Jerusalem, the more unclean it gets. Jesus hops in a boat from a place that isn't so clean, to a place that's absolutely filthy. Who ever heard of a Jewish boy hearding pigs? In the journey, and uncontrollable storm that he controls. Then gets to a cemetary and sees a man who is absolutely out of control. Chains were simply broken. Superhuman strength. Superhuman knowledge. Jesus coming from Israel, the man knows exactly who he is. Legion = 5000 soldiers. Legion = 5-6000 demons. This man is tormented. Luke 8:30-31. Demons begged Jesus not to send them to the bottomless pit, but to go into the pigs. Jesus gave them permission. Jesus steps into uncontrollable atmospheres and brings them under control.
Q: Is there anything in Langford that needs to come under control? Not talking about demonic deliverance - far too narrow. About the vocation of the local church. The good news - the kingdom of God has broken in, but it's up the church to bring uncontrollable atmospheres under control. Go into dark places.
Perplexity in the church. We are agents of change, ambassadors of Christ. But often we are paralysed by uncontrollable christians.
But we are of the order of Melchizadek. King-priest. Not just power, but authority. Pray with authority for grace, healing, wisdom, training. The church's primary function is NOT for christians, but for the nations! First prophetic word through Abraham, for nations. But the world won't sniff the reign of God until we step into it! Q: What's the switch?
Difference between christian leadership and spiritual authority. Quote: "The devil is not afraid of our leadership capacity, but is terrified of anyone with spiritual authority." We need more than leadership, it's going to take spiritual authority! "Spiritual authority is rooted in our identity as children of God, expanded by our intimacy with God, and activated by faith". Here's the problem: we want to go from step 1 to step 3, and bypass intimacy with God. There's so much of the Christian life that you can't bypass. God's goal for us is not that we do the stuff, but be conformed to the image of Christ. The win is not a big church, but that we are intimate with God.
2 Corinthians 13:14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus, love of God and communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Even in this nut-bar church, assume that you're hanging out with the Holy Spirit.
Story: Son's response : there's my dad! AFL. Politics. Generous in pouring out and telling us stuff. Elder with the horse. In every single arena you see this, except in the church! How different would it be if we had a different generation! If we walked into an arena, and get a glimpse of God - there's my dad! Comes from my identity, expanded through intimacy, activated with faith.
Can't pray for intimacy - you have to do that. Prophetic word is because you're not ready right now, but for when you are ready! We may get a word, but it is on US to do the work! There's always more to learn, more to see.
Mark 3:27. Jesus is plundering the house of the strong man. The strong man is tied up. Our job is the plunder - we should be terrorizing the dark forces. As you spend time with God, get a greater understanding of who we are with Christ. We know it in our head. Power is available, God could take Langford in a flash. All we need to do for that to happen is to change the switch! Internally, maybe all it takes is settling ourselves, and go after spiritual authority. Then remarkable things will happen.
