Part of the Visitor Speaker series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Promises of God, the Commands of God.
The promises of God are to be enjoyed. Two main sources:
- The word of God. God wants to speak into your life
- By God’s Spirit.
Always be expectant that God will speak to you!
Psalm 119. Full of scriptures that speak into our everyday lives.
vs 9. How can a young men cleanse his way? By taking heed to Your word. Listen to God’s word!
vs 11. Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Memorise scriptures!
vs 38. Establish your word to your servant, who is devoted to fearing you.
vs 49. Remember the word to your servant ... your word has given me life.
vs 89. Forever, Lord, your word is settled in heaven.
vs 103. How sweet are your words
vs 105. Your word is a lamp to my feet.
vs 130. The entrance of your Word gives light.
vs 133. Direct my steps by Your word. Let no iniquity have dominion over me.
The bible gives us instructions for every area of our lives, and helps us to live a life worth fulfilling.
The written word, and the words from the Spirit. Challenge to spend 1 hour a day alone with God, reading the word. Praying in english, and in your prayer language.
Rom 12:1,2. Present your bodies as a living sacrifice. Your body is a wonderful servant, but an awful master. Mind is a wonderful servant, but an awful master. Faith in your heart, doubt in your head - listen to your heart!
vs 2. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed.
Every generation from Paul onwards, said Jesus is coming back. This is the first generation ever where Jesus has appeared to people and said he is coming back. Not yet, but it won’t be long. Very close to the returning of Christ.
With all the turmoil in the word, we need to be grounded in the word of God.
Transformed by the renewing of your mind. The word of God can influence every area of your life. Lots of things we do because the word of God says to do it!
John 15:7,8. Challenge to memorise scripture! If you abide in me, and I abide in you, ask whatever you desire, and it shall be done for you. What does “abide in me” mean? Talk to God during the day, always aware of Him. Resting in God. Opposite of being stressed out.
Promises of God, the commands of God. Promises are to be enjoyed. What is God promising you? If you don’t have a promise, you are like a ship in the ocean without a rudder. The reason why I cope with the problems, is that I have the promises.
Superimpose the promises of God over your problems, and you can have peace in the situation.
The bible has called us to service:
- worship, submit our lives to him.
- one another, body in fellowship.
- the world with the gospel.
What has God asked you to do? When you get to heaven, get “Well done, good and faithful servant”. God says “well done”, because we’ve done something! I get my instructions from God. We are all called to do the works of God.
When you do the generals, God will give the specifics. All God needs from you is a “Yes” and then He does the impossible. The impossible becomes possible when you say Yes to God.
