Clinton Phillips, January 20, 2019
Part of the Summer Series series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Introduction
Story of Northbridge: God has put light in us, so we can light in darkness. No matter what the situation is, there’s no sin that God cannot forgive. God is passionate about the lost, because once we were lost.
Measure! We measure ingredients, numbers, weight, time, finances. We have social media where we measure our lives against others.
john 14:23. Anyone who loves me obeys my teaching. I will come to them, and we will make our home with them. The importance of the word of God in our life.
Theme: shift. Excited for Sheldon & Sam taking executive pastor role in Joondalup C3 church.
New Year’s revolutions (not resolutions!) Revolutionise prayer life. The word of God is important to us! The Word of God is our life source. The air that we breathe. The conversation with God, do every day with God. Continues in us every day. Tune in to God.
The sheep would know the shepherd’s voice. The shepherd would call out, and the sheep would recognise the voice of their shepherd, and start following that voice. Led them out - the sheep knew the voice. God is wanting to lead you, by the voice of God - Jesus Christ. Jesus is on every page. I need the word of God in every part of our lives. God is all about relationship. Baptised in Father, Son, Holy Spirit -> relationship. Discipleship is about relationship with God. Church is about deepening relationship with Him. Shift our thinking - every song triggers worship inside us. Word of God instructs us.
John 14:23. Obeys - obedience is an affirmation of our love for him. Not just no doing the wrong things! How many want God to live in our heart? Is there room? Is there attitudes or dark areas in our hearts that crowd him out?
Jesus is about relationship - if you obey my word, we will come and live IN you! Creator of heaven and earth wants to live inside me! Is there anything too hard for him, anything that he cannot take care of? He can take care of you! He will lead you from within, because you know His voice.
When you’re so depressed, discouraged, or afraid, we can respond in hate, or respond in faith and trust: I don’t have this right now, but I know you’re going to provide for me! We recognise his voice, and then he’ll begin to speak. We speak to him a lot, but we need to listen to him!
John 5:39,40. (TPT) You study the Scriptures because you think they will give eternal life, but they talk about Me (Jesus), and I will give you life! The purpose of scripture is to reveal Jesus in you and through you. When I read it, can I see you Jesus? Pray: “I don’t want read stuff that is boring, but can you reveal Jesus to me through the scriptures?”
Mark 4:1-27 Parable of the sower. Unpacking the parable to the disciples. There’s the word of God, and the word that he wants to speak to you. It’s going to be life-giving. Give spirit, faith, intellect life. Don’t do it out of obligation, do it out of relationship. The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but everyone on the outside, speaking in parables.
If the bible wasn’t so life giving, then why is there so much opposition to it? Because the enemy wants to keep you from turning to God. Jesus is speaking to his disciples - there is an enemy who wants to rob the word from you.
The reason you can’t break free is that you don’t have the key - the key is the Word of God!
Time to shift! Measure!
Vs 16 Trouble and persecution come to steal the word of God, those people quickly fall away. But there is a re-gathering of people who have fallen away.
Vs 18 worries of this life, deceitfulness of wealth, desire for other things, choke the word, making it unfruitful.
Vs 20 then there’s the good soil. Produce harvest in your life.
Bookends: let him have ears to hear. The revelation that God gives you, is for others as well.
Vs 24 Consider carefully what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Not talking about finances, talking about the word of God. Whatever you take, it will be measured back to your life. If your life is only about Sunday, that’s all that’s going to be measured back to you.
Vs 25. Whoever has will be given more. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Why is it so hard to get around the word of God, when we’re not really into it? He wants us to understand the significance of his word!
