Part of the Believe series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Introduction. Recap. Last month - Faith. Paul: Exercise. Lisa: trusting. Clinton: Faith in the things unseen.
This week begin new series: Believe. What it looks like to believe in Jesus. We are complex beings. Live in the world of consequences and choices.
Survivor TV show. The dumbest move in survivor history. The Black Widow brigade. Voted out. What does this have to do with today?
We have this necklace around us absolute belief and trust in God. But, dumbest move ever, we take the necklace off. “If I could just get married, if I could just get that job”. We put so much desire in them, that we’re not believing in god for the things we desire.
When we start to look at the thing, we stop waiting on God.
Matt 7:24-27. Parable of the house on the rock. It’s easy to say that we believe in God for these things, but what does it actually look like? It shouldn’t look like us seeking out things to make us happy. Build our foundation on the trust in God.
When we take the necklace off, and trials and troubles come, we will be pushed around. But if we keep our faith in God, we will not be moved with the wind and waves.
Lisa spoke about not believing in God for the big things. But if we’re not doing that, then where are we placing our faith? If we put our focus on relationships, money, status; we start to believe other lies too that are in the world. That you aren’t good enough. That you aren’t clever enough. That you don’t belong in church. Not worthy enough to be a follower of Christ. These are lies that the enemy tries to get you to believe in. When we start to believe these lies then we put on different necklaces of comparison.
When we hear the word of God, we need to position ourselves in worship in prayer.
Luke 22:3 Satan went into Judas. Betrayed Jesus
Vs 47 Crowd led by Judas - would you betray Jesus with a kiss? He was one of the 12 disciples, saw first hand the love and miracles that Jesus performed. You would have thought that Judas would have complete belief in Jesus. But he didn’t! He took off the necklace of belief for status and money. None of us are completely immune to unbelief. It’s the moment that you start to think you’ve got it all sorted out, that you are vulnerable.
Night of worship. Repentance table, 30 pieces of silver. Story of Viv, repentance. We have these things in our lives that are amazing proof of God, but we still doubt. Skye’s story, doubts.
Can be going through trials, happens to everyone. About recognising that and reigning in control.
What can we do when unbelief comes in? WWJD? What would Jesus do?
John 13:1-17 Jesus knew his hour had come. Note vs 16,17. Wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example. Do as I have done to you.
1. A part of this is repentance. Acknowledge that you have sinned. Unbelief has crept in. Committing to God to change.
2. Share the love of God. Love others as you love yourself. Do this as a church. If we all gave up, there’d be no one left. Even when we’re going through stuff, love others. Christmas starts today - invite people over, speak to people. Love Langford - donate! That’s our chance to love our community. When you’re going through something and you’re sharing with someone, that’s when your belief is strengthened.
Vs14, wash each other’s feet.
1 cor 12:26. If one part suffers, every part suffers. If one part is honoured, every part is honoured.
